IOM Turkey organized two separate pieces of training in Antalya and Ankara on "Gender & Human Rights" under the EU-funded Improvement of Customs Enforcement Capacity project. The training was delivered to a total of 50 customs enforcement managers and officials from the General Directorate of Customs Protection. This training was organized for the first time in the scope of the project which aims to increase awareness in gender and gender mainstreaming in border management. This training focused on human rights and the use of force. The participants, particularly female officers were pleased to have a platform to be able to discuss inequalities and gender discrimination. This training is an essential step to expand gender awareness in the customs. This training will help to improve customs officers' ability to recognize the needs of different people and respond to the needs from a gender perspective.
